OMEGA FILMS is a film producing company for feature, documentary and animation films
Svetoslav Ovcharov is the author of 3 books, several theatre and TV plays.
He is a writer and director with many years of experience in historical documentary and feature film. His films have been selected by prominent festivals (San Sebastian, Cairo, Busan, Moscow, Warsaw, Thessaloniki, etc.).
He received the best director and FIPRESCI awards in Cairo IFF (2010).
Two of his films as screenwriter have been nominated for European Film Academy awards in the Debut (DESCOVERY) section: Thirst directed by Svetla Tsotsorkova (2016), and Irina directed by Nadezhda Koseva (2019). Both films are centered on the characters of young women who are seeking their place in society. Mr. Ovcharov is a professor at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. His work with young people led him to becoming a producer 14 years ago.
As a producer he lent his support to young people who had debuts in feature films (Svetla Tsotsorkova), and animation (Ani Antonova Hristova, Dimiter Ovtcharov). Whether independently, through Omega Films or in co-production, he has created 7 feature, 3 documentaries, and 3 animation films. The films produced by Omega Films are in different styles and genres: from contemporary dramas dealing with today’s racial and gender divisions, to historical dramas. Svetoslav Ovcharov is a member of the Bulgarian Association of film directors, the Bulgarian Association of film producers, and the European Film Academy.
Between 2006 and 2016 Omega Films was running a private TV kitchen channel called Fiesta TV.
